Children artists awarded


Art & Culture Report : The prize giving ceremony of national children art competition titled ‘Boishakhe Chhobi Anko, Joishtye Prodorshoni’ was held at the Shawkat Osman Memorial Auditorium of the Central Public Library in the city recently. Governor of Bangladesh Bank Dr Atiur Rahman attended the ceremony as the chief guest and distributed prizes among the winners while renowned artist Monirul Islam, Chairman of Patua Quamrul Hasan Art School and also the former Vice-chancellor of Jahangirnagar University Prof Zillur Rahman Siddiqui, Managing Director of Arab Bangladesh (AB) Bank Kaiser Chowdhury and Deputy Managing Director of Mercantile Bank Faruque Moinuddin were present among others. Nafisa Islam Tultul, a student of class five, won the top position of the competition while Shumaiya Nushrat Shimu, Rownak Murshed, Amrin Shahriar and Saha Snigdha, from four different groups, became the runner-up of the contest. Patua Quamrul Hasan Art School organised the exhibition at the Zainul Gallery of the Faculty of Fine Arts of Dhaka University while Mercantile Bank patronised the competition. With the exhibition of 83 paintings of 83 children, the children art competition ended on June 15. The artworks represented the Language Movement of 1952, celebration of Pahela Baishakh, childhood, Liberation War of 1971, nature and its beauty, village life, rivers and paddy fields of Bangladesh. The exhibition was dedicated to the legendary duo artists of the sub-continent who deceased recently-Makbul Hossain Fida of India and Mohammad Kibria of Bangladesh.
