Elocutionists recall Jibanananda’s memories

To mark the 57th death anniversary of the poet Jibanananda Das, a poetry recitation programme organised by a troupe of elocutionists, Srote Abriti Sangsad, was held recently at Shawkat Osman Memorial Auditorium of the Central Public Library in the city’s Shahbagh area.
The troupe arranges recitation programmes every year to pay tribute to Jibanananda Das. For this year they paid tribute to the late poet by performing a production titled “Jibanananda Smaran” under the banner of the troupe. This production featured 20 recitations.
The production-featured poems were - “Ananda”, “Monokonika”, “Bhoy Bhul Mrityu”, “Surjokorojjol”, “Onek Mrito Biplobir Smarane”, “Adbhut Andhar Ek”, “Manusher Mrityu Holey”, among others.
Promising elocutionists Mahfuz Masum, Shanta Srabani, Dr Robin Das and Shamima Sultana, among others, recited in the programme. Planned and edited by Mahfuz Rizvi, the production covered the Jibanananda’s works, based on the themes of nature, love, social issues, contemporary politics and universal perspectives.
Therefore, a five-minute documentary on the life and works of Jibanananda Das was also screened in the function.
