Seminar on cancer prevention at Stamford University
.
A Seminar on 'Dietary Phytochemicals: A Rational Approach for Cancer Chemoprevention' was held recently in the Department of Pharmacy, Stamford University Bangladesh . Professor Dr. Abdul Ghani, Chairman of the Department, chaired the seminar. The Faculty members, Lab Assistants and the M. Pharm students of the department were present in the Seminar. Mr. Md. Mostafizur Rahman, a lecturer of the Department, gave the Seminar. The presentation was based on the results of his M.S. Thesis, which he recently submitted to Seoul National University of South Korea. The Speaker provided up-to-date information on the role of phytochemicals present in our dietary sources in prevention and attenuation of the incidence of different types of cancer. He authoritatively explained with supportive experimental results how dietary phytochemicals work as chemopreventive agents. His lecture was enriched with reports of recent research progress on cancer and the rationality of chemoprevention as an alternative to treatment in the war against cancer. He showed several evidences from preclinical and clinical studies and logically demonstrated how conventional chemotherapy and radiotherapy evoke severe and most of the time fatal side effects. Thus he concluded that dietary phytochemicals should be considered as a logical approach for cancer prevention, treatment and management. The most attractive part of the Seminar was the interactive Questions and Answer session that followed the presentation. Everybody actively participated in this session and finally Professor Dr. Abdul Ghani thanked the Speaker for his beautiful presentation and declared the Seminar closed after making some concluding remarks.
