.
Art & Culture Report:
The legendary baul singer Shah Abdul Karim’s legacy was honoured by Banglalink with a two-day long festival titled “Shah Abdul Karim Loko Utshob 2012”.
The festival was held from February 18 to 19. The festival started at Ujandhol at Derai upazila in Shunamganj with people turning up in massive numbers to enjoy mind-blowing baul concerts and dances.
Shah Abdul Karim, who passed away recently in 2009, was an icon of Bangladeshi folk music, specialising in Bengali baul song. Born and raised in the village of Ujadhol in Derai upazila of Shunamganj, his songs, brought to life by his rustic, weathered voice rendered the mass people of the nation spellbound. He was awarded the Ekushey Padak in the year 2001 for his outstanding musical achievements.
After many years of celebrations, the Shah Abdul Karim Loko Utsab has become a scope of reunion and entertainment for people from all walks of Bengali life.
To celebrate the event, hundreds of cultural personalities as well as thousands of mass people from all over the country gather and commemorate the legend in his birthplace in Shunamganj.
This year marks the fifth year that Banglalink has been sponsoring this tribute to the rich cultural heritage of Bangladesh. ‘Dhologrambashi’ was the  organiser of this gala event.
While sharing his comment on this folk festival Shihab Ahmad, Marketing Senior Director of Banglalink said, “Shah Abdul Karim was a legend of his time and Banglalink is proud to be so closely involved in offering such a tribute to his legendary baul song.
This endeavour is in line with our continued efforts to promote and uphold the local culture and heritage of Bangladesh.” n
