Job fair for disabled held in N'ganj

UNB, Narayanganj:
A job fair aimed at providing access to employment for persons with disabilities was held on Narayanganj Sadar upazila parishad premises on Tuesday.
Centre for Services and Information on Disability (CSID) in collaboration with Leonard Cheshire Disability (LCD) and Accenture Centre organised the fair titled "Decent Job and Employment for Persons with Disabilities".
Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad Biswas, Chairman of Narayanganj Sadar upazila, attended the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest while Mohammad Jahid Hossain Panir, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), Nazimuddin Ahamed, vice chairman of Sadar upazila, and Sheela Saha, Upazila Social Service Officer, as the special guests.
A discussion involving the officials and representatives of government and private organisations was also held at the hall room of the upazila parishad.
Addressing on the occasion, Khandaker Jahurul Alam, Executive Director of CSID, said, "Though persons with disabilities are adept at IT and other works, they are being excluded from the mainstream employment sector."
Iftekhar Ahmed, Programme Manager of CSID, placed the activities of Access to Livelihood project through a PowerPoint presentation.
The speakers called upon all concerned to provide employment facilities for the persons with disabilities at their institutions so that they can be self-dependent and lead a decent life.
Journalists, representatives of NGOs and garments and persons with disabilities were present on the occasion.
