Drug Syndicate thriving on RU campus

The number of drug addicts on Rajshahi Varsity dormitory has started rising alarmingly. some syndicate regularly supply illegal drugs to different dormitories with supports from various quarters including law enforcing agencies. Some teachers and students are also involved in the racket.
Different hall sources said that, some rooms of the dormitories have turned into a safe place for taking drugs. Among the drug materials Ganja, Opium and phensidyl etc are readily available.
The sources also said that places near the university main gate the betar ground, Fine Arts Chatter, University School ground, the mass graveyard, Kazla, Mirzapur, Mizaner mor, back side of the Binodpur Dashmari, Meherchandi are the well known spots where illegal drugs are sold openly.
Local people alleged that, many teachers and students including the female students come to those spots and buy drugs openly. They also alleged that the law enforcers always go to these spots but it has no effective result to remove the practices of drugs. Even some people alleged that the law enforcers also took a portion of benefit from the drug syndicates. As a result the drugs syndicate flourishes and various incidents of crimes including theft and snatching increased on the campus and students’ messes near the campus as the miscreants' go unpunished in most of the cases.
Confirming the matter the chairman of the Department of Fine Arts Professor Abdul Matin Talukdar told the New Nation that, "during the evening and early hours of night the drug addicts gathered here and doing their illegal works on the departmental chatter. Beside that the guards on duty if made any obstacle then they threatened them.
According to the Motihar thana police sources the law enforcers recently seized over 2,500 bottles of phensidyl from places around the Rajshahi University areas.
Without social awareness and cooperation from all, it is almost impossible for any agency to check drug trafficking and other crimes, they also added.
