Investment proposals with BOI up by 23.90pc

Despite rough political weather in the country, investment proposals are on the rise indicating high business potentials that this country offers to local and foreign business. Registration of joint-venture and foreign investment proposals with Board of Investment (BOI) and such other agencies increased by 23.90 percent during the July-March period of the current fiscal year 2011-12.
BOI figure said a total of 1448 investment proposals involving Tk 72,540 crore were registered with the agency during the period under review. The amount is up by Tk 5,628 crore from the same period of the last fiscal year 2010-11.
Of the 1448 proposals, BOI registered 1277 domestic proposals involving an outlay of Tk 39,166.98 crore and 171 joint-venture and foreign investment proposals worth Tk 33,373.19 crore.
During the period, the overall registration of investment proposals rose by 8.41 percent. Of the joint-venture and foreign proposals, the highest 31.33 percent proposals were registered in the engineering sector, 15.98 percent in service sector, 12.72 percent in textile, 10.03 percent in chemical, 7.87 percent in agro-processing and 21.97 percent in other sectors.
