JS body for realizing outstanding power bills

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Accounts in a meeting on Wednesday discussed the audit objections raised by the office of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) on Dhaka Electricity Supply Authority and Bangladesh Power Development Board (PDB) for the financial year 2000-2001 and 2002-2003.

The committee recommended the authorities concerned to inform it about through CAG after taking action against those responsible for failing to reduce system losses because the government had to incur huge losses for their failure.  About the audit objections regarding failing to disconnect electricity lines for non-payment of bills, the committee recommended taking step to realize arrear bills and inform the overall progress about it to the committee through CAG within the next 30 days.

The committee also recommended taking steps within the next 30 days against those involved in clearing the payments against six works for which no tenders were published in newspapers.  It also suggested for taking steps to realize all arrears power bills within the next 30 days.

Chairman of the committee Dr Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir presided over the meeting that was attended, among others, by Prof Ali Ashraf and MK Anwar.
