PSI system to be abolished by Dec : NBR Chairman

The NBR Chairman and Secretary of Internal Resource Division  Dr. Nasiruddin Ahmed said , the Pre-Shipment Inspection System ( PSI) would be abolished in December, 2012 by bringing all custom related activities under automation and Alternative Dispute Resolution system would spread all over the country from July, 2012. He was addressing in a pre-budget meeting with the members of the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce & Industry yesterday  at Chamber auditorium  presided over by Chamber President  Murshed Murad Ibrahim.
In the jam-packed gathering, NBR Chairman stated that fiscal proposals submitted by CCCI would be given utmost consideration to include them in the upcoming budget. Admitting some ill practices and complexities in income tax administration he assured of taking necessary initiative to make the process easier and mentioned that the Prime Minister to inaugurate the Online Tax Paying system on 26th May, 2012.  Like last three years, he expected to exceed revenue collection target this time as well and sought all out cooperation from all the stakeholders specially the business community in this respect. Two representatives of Chittagong Chamber would be appointed as Facilitator of Alternative Dispute Resolution- he added.  Md. Nasir Uddin, Member, Customs Policy appraised CCCI as the representative of all the stakeholders including exporters-importers and urged for more professional performance from the organization.
Welcoming the NBR Chairman, Chittagong Chamber President  Murshed Murad Ibrahim said that Chittagong Chamber has been working restlessly for enhancing economic progress and expansion of trade and business of the country by ensuring suitable environment and eliminating poverty by creating employment opportunity through industrialization.
He marked inflation as our national issue and urged for ensuring good local market management, controlling irrational price hike and aggression of middlemen so that the common mass can get the benefit of the fiscal policy taken by the Government in this regard. He gave emphasis on making a people oriented budget in order to enhance the economic development of the country by motivating investment, eliminating poverty, coordinating custom policy, strengthening administrative activities, easing revenue earning process with rational percentage and implementing the annual development programme properly.
Chittagong Chamber Senior Vice-President  Mahbubul Alam requested to enhance the process of alternative dispute resolution. In addition to that he drew attention of NBR Chairman to consider the proposals of the Chamber earnestly.
Chittagong Chamber Director  M.A. Salam asked not to impose any further tax or duty on export in his concluding speech. Chittagong Chamber Directors Mr. Mahfuzul Hoque Shah, . Md. Emdadul Hoque Chowdhury and  Absar Hasan Chowdhury also spoke on the occasion, a sources of CCCI said.
