Drive against chemical treated fruits

Three mobile courts against adulterated fruits led conducted by Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) and district administration have destroyed a total of 18 tonne chemical treated mangoes from shops and realized Tk 58,000 and destroyed a huge amount of Chemical treated mango and banana in the city on Monday.
Executive Magistrate Abu Sayeed conducted a mobile court at Jatrabari area and found a huge amount of formalin mixed banana. The mobile court realised Tk 8,000 fine from vendor Nur Hossain.
Another mobile court, conducted by executive magistrate Jasim Uddin, operated drive at Badamtali whole sale market and found mango treated with calcium carbide at M/s Dewan traders. The court realized Tk 10,000 fine from its owner and destroyed 20 kg chemical treated mangoes.
The mobile court also found calcium carbide treated mango in another whole sale shop in the area. Court realised Tk 40,000 fine from shop owner Zakir Hossain and destroyed 126 kg calcium carbide treated mangoes.
Executive Magistrate Rashenun Quader conducted drive at Shah Ali Beribadh area and found a huge amount of chemical treated mango. The court destroyed 17,800 kg mangoes that were treated with chemical in 13 shops at that market.
