‘GPS technology effective against vehicle theft’
. BSS, Dhaka
The global positioning system (GPS) in vehicles proved to be very effective with police saying they have so far recovered all the cars having the technology installed.
"Fifteen luxurious cars having the GPS technology were stolen, we recovered all of them tracking down their locations," additional deputy commissioner of Dhaka metropolitan police Mokhlesur Rahman told BSS.
He said in the latest such incident a car with GPS system was stolen from Dhaka but police recovered it within hours from Gopalganj identifying its location through the GPS system. GPS tracking devices allow the driver of a vehicle to locate his position and reach a destination finding the right street while driving and if stolen the vehicles position could also be located through the tracking system.
According to police statistics, over 600 vehicles are stolen alone from the capital city per year and over 30 percent of these vehicles could never be recovered.
