Universities to get help for solar power promotion


bdnews24.com : The government will assist universities in conducting research on how solar power can be spread to the rural people, the prime minister's energy adviser has said. Addressing a function at Dhaka University recently, Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury said: "Of all the universities, Dhaka University will be the first to sign a deal towards facilitating the government initiative." He said: "Generation of solar power should be given priority to tackle the country's energy crisis." DU vice-chancellor A A M S Arefin Siddique presided over the workshop, titled 'Renewable Energy and its Use'. He said scopes for solar power generation in the country are abundant. "But it's not possible to supply such power to the people at present for the lack of technology." He announced that the Centre for Renewable Energy (CRE) under the university would be made an institute. Pro VC Harun-or-Rashid, CRE director Rezaul Karim Majumder and workshop co-ordinator Saiful Haque were among others to speak at the function.
