Wives of held 18-party leaders stage demo in front of jail

The wives and family members of detained leaders of 18-party alliance Monday staged a human chain demo in Kashimpur Jail area of the district demanding quick release of the detained leaders.
Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal arranged the human chain in front of the jail gate at about 11:00am.
Among others, Nahid Hannan, wife of BNP standing committee member Brig. (Rtd.) ASM Hannan Shah and Shampa Haque, wife of AKM Fazlul Haque Milon attended the demo.
Earlier on Sunday, the wives and family members of the detained leaders alleged that the national level senior leaders became the prey of police harassment inside the jail. They came up with the observation while addressing press conference at the VIP lounge of National Press Club on Sunday morning.
According to the written statement, puting the 18-party leaders in jail is a shameful incident for the democracy. They all have the rights of getting bail as they are the respectable and noted politicians of the country.
Meanwhile, they alleged that the detained leaders are not getting necessary things and even medicines inside the jail. On the other hand, the High Court on Sunday granted bail for six weeks to five BNP lawmakers in a vehicle torching case in front of PM's office during hartal.
They are-MK Anwar, barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon, Col. (Rtd.) Oli Ahmed, Barrister Andalib Rahman Partha and Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anne.
An HC bench comprising of Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice FRM Nazmul Ahsan issued the bail in response to separate bail petitions filed by the detained 33 leaders of 18-party alliance.
Meanwhile, the court issued a rule upon the government for one week asking why the other detained leaders should not be grated bail.
Earlier on May 23, a Dhaka Court rejected the bail plea of 33 opposition leaders, including BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in cocktail explosion, vehicle vandalism and arson cases for the second time.
On May 16, a Dhaka Court asked the authority concerned to send 33 leaders of BNP-led 18-party alliance including BNP acting secretary general Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to jail after rejecting their bail prayers.
