CCCI on tripartite meet to solve RMG crisis

Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry President-in-Charge Md. Nurun Newaz Salim urged the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to arrange a tripartite meeting comprising Government-Entrepreneur-Worker on an urgent basis in order to solve the recent crisis in RMG Sector at Ashulia.
He made this appeal in a message on Tuesday last. Mentioning RMG as the most earning export item of Bangladesh he said that this sector earned $1,791 crore which is about 80% of the total export in the fiscal 2011-12. He opined that the recent chaos and anarchy in RMG Sector at Ashulia has shut down more than 300 factories incurring a huge loss of $4 million per day while the respective workers including 80% women are at stake and leading a miserable life.
On the other hand Bangladesh Garments export to USA has gone down by 28.40% and European Market by 15% because of global recession-he added.
Md. Nurun Newaz Salim is afraid that the recent crisis can spoil the image of Bangladesh to the other world and can cause cancellation of huge work order which will make the competitive countries benefited in competition by exploiting the sudden chance. Chittagong Chamber President In-charge earnestly requested the Prime Minister to take immediate initiative with a view to protect the prime export sector and one of the leading driving forces of the economy, RMG, considering its overall importance in the economic context of Bangladesh, a CCCI sources said.
