BNP Sylhet District & City Unit has completed a mass signature campaign on the Sylhet City point Wednesday to press home an demand for return of Sylhet district BNP president Ex-MP M. Elias Ali. They submitted a memorandum with the signatures of around 3000 people.
In support of the demands they brought out a procession from the City point at 12:30 pm. That has paraded the main road of Sylhet City.
Sylhet City BNP president M. A. Haque presided City BNP Secretary Abdul Kaium Jalali Ponki addressed the rally.
The front started the weeklong signature collection from June 20 on the city point that continued till afternoon. Speakers at the rally said, the Awami League-led grand alliance government illegally detained central leaders of the party's associate bodies Swechchhasebak Dal leader advocate Samsuzzam Jaman.
The leaders also said there is no rule of law in the country. Corruption, bribery, extortion, tender manipulation, custodial killing and torture, crossfire, forced disappearances, nepotism and harassment of opposition activists have become order of the day in the country under AL rule.
The AL-led grand alliance government has been plotting to cling to power for an indefinite period by holding an unilateral election. That's why it had scrapped the neutral caretaker system to make their plot a success. But they warned that people would no longer tolerate any undemocratic rule and autocratic ruler. The leaders also demanded return of their leaders M. Elias Ali.
District BNP Vice president Ex-MP Dilder Hussain Salim, Sheak Mokon Miah Chairman, Secretary Abdul Goffer, BNP leader Advocate Noman Mahmud, City councilor Razaul Hasan koas Lodi also spoke this rally.
