MP accused of extortion, grabbing school land

An education institution atKeraniganj on the outskirts of Dhaka has raised an allegation against the locallawmaker Nasrul Hamid Bipu and his associates that he made extortion and a roadfor his housing project by grabbing land of the institution

Bipu also managed the post ofpresident of the managing committee at Dholesshar Abdul Mannan Adarso College,flouting government rules.

The allegation was placed by MAAwal, the founder president of the college and a freedom fighter, at a pressconference held at the office of Bangladesh Crime Reporters Association (CRAB) in the capital onWednesday.

The rules stipulate that a memberof parliament cannot hold president's post at any trustworthy educationalinstitution. But Awami League MP from Dhaka-3 constituency (Keraniganj) NasrulHamid Bipu grabbed the post on July 10.

But Dholesshar Abdul Mannan AdarsoCollege was run by "Dholesshar Kalyan Trust" since 1992, Awalsaid.   

He also alleged that musclemen ofBipu gave threat to the college teachers and students not to came to theschool.  

Prof. Fahima Khatun Chairman ofBoard of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Dhaka told reporters onWednesday that Dholesshar Abdul Mannan Adarso College has been operated by"Dholesshar Kalyan Trust" since 1992 and the board approved MA Awalas the president of the governing body.

Bipu took permission from theeducation ministry by summiting false and fabricated papers, MA Awalalleged.
