2 buildings catch fire in city

Fire broke out at four apartments of two adjoining residential buildings in capital's Fakirapool, gutting valuables worth about Tk 25 lakh on Sunday night. Fire Brigade sources said the fire originated at 9:27 pm from an electric trans former installed in front of the two multi-storied buildings.
Witnesses sad the transformer caught fire at 9:27 pm and soon the flame spread to a seven-storey building on holding 180 and an adjoining six-storey building on holding 110, situated near Fakirapool Panir Tanki (overhead water reservoir). The blaze razed the first floor and the second floor of the 7-storey building and then flame engulfed the second and the third floors of the 6-storey one, gutting valuables worth Tk 25 lakh of the four luxury apartments.
Being informed four fire fighting units from Fire Brigade Head-quarter in Phulbaria rushed to the spot and tamed the flame with the help of the locals after about two hours of hectic efforts at 11:30 pm.
