Eid shopping gaining momentum in Narsingdi, Moulvibazar

Eid shopping is gaining momentum in Narsingdi with the holy Eid-ul-Fitr drawing nearer.
People from all walks of life are rushing to the markets of the town to buy items of their choice for their nearest and dearest ones daily.
The shoppers are seen very busy from morning to midnight everyday selling their goods.
The leading super markets, including Islam Plaza, Besal Shopping Centre, Noin Tara Plaza, Index Plaza, Hm Plaza and Sharif manson are decorated with special gates and banners and illuminated to draw the attention of buyers.
The most crowded markets of the town are Noin Tra Plaza, Index Plaza, Sharif Manson, Habib Market, Kalo Miha Market and Monsi Neaz Market where the people of the lower income group are seen very busy purchasing different things like saris, punjabis, children's dresses, cosmetics and shoes.
Footpaths of the main roads as well as the alleys are also occupied by the hawkers selling various items ahead of the Eid festival.
Swapon Kumar Sarker, owner of Shibani, a cloth shop on the Station Road, said `The demand for cotton saris is still high in the markets and it's easy to sell saris, as their prices do not vary much.'
Maksuda Akter a housewife from Rashulpur, said `I purchased a set of three piece dress at Tk 550 from Monsi Neaz Market, but the same piece is sold at different super market shops at Tk 600 to Tk 700.
A good number of boutique shops were set up by woman entrepreneurs in residential areas of the town to sell their handmade products. But they could not yet be able to attract the general customers due to high prices.
Young boys in residential areas of the town have also set up stalls to sell view cards. Boys and girls are buying greeting cards at cheap prices from these stalls.
Moulvibazar Correspondent adds: People have started Eid shopping at markets, malls, complexes, and wayside shops in the town much ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr festivity to avoid a massive rush at the end. Hundreds of men, women, girls, boys, youths, adolescents, students and aged people, are buying their items of own choices. Market and police sources said Eid shopping has started getting momentum amid tight security. The authorities have beefed up security measures to enable the people shopping without facing any problem and untoward incidents.
Members of police, RAB and intelligence agencies are found patrolling the markets, roads and other important places and no incidents of mugging, burglary, extortion and other crimes have so far been reported from anywhere. In addition, authorities and owners of the business establishments, organizations and centres have arranged their own security measures. Talking to this correspondent at different markets and shopping malls, the traders hoped a better business and higher selling this year because of improved economic condition and increase in incomes of all people.
