Photography exhibition at RU

Devastation of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in focus

A day long photography exhibition focusing the Devastation of Hiroshima and Nagasaki held at Rajshahi University (RU) campus on Monday marking the Hirosima day with special vigils and peace marches.
The day is earmarked to commemorate the US' dropping of the first atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima on August 6, 1945.
Bangladesh Chhatra Union of RU unit organized the exhibition.
Sources said, over hundred photographs and cartoons of the destruction wrought by the US atomic bombing against the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II are on displayed on that very exhibition.
Shipon Ahmed of RU unit Chhatra Union president chaired the opening programme of the photography exhibition while Iftekharul Islam Shiplu, general secretary of RU unit Chhatra union conducted the programmee.
Hiroshima and Nagasaki were bombed by the US on August 6 and 9, 1945. The speakers focused on the brutal atomic bombing of the twin cities during the Second World War and emphasised the need to build a peaceful world.
Meanwhile, Kendrio Sangskritik Jote of the university held an anti-war rally in front of the university central library at around 11.00am
Addressing at the rally the speakers condemned the role of the then US president Henry S Trumen of the bombing in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Aumit kumar dey, lecturer of Genetics Engineering and Bio Technology and also former secretary of the university Kendrio Sannskritik Jote, Aupurbo Krishno Chakrabarty and Arif Parvej president and general secretary respectively of the Jote and Leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra Federarion spoke at the programme among others.
