219 eminent citizens against recent GB Ordinance

Some 219 eminent citizens of the country on Monday protested the recent gazette notification of the 'Grameen Bank (Amendment) Ordinance 2012' and flayed the government for its activities against the bank.
In a joint statement, they said, the government amended the ordinance aims at destroying the bank and called upon all to save the institution.
"The step of the government is 'ill-motivated' and 'illogical' and such attempts would tarnish the reputation of its founder Nobel Laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus globally side by side ruination of the institution," they mentioned.
They further said Nobel Laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus and his Grameen Bank have earned worldwide reputation for the country. The bank and its founder are our national assets, but these are going to be ruined due to vendetta of the present government, they added.
The signatories include: former DU vice chancellors Prof Dr Emajuddin Ahmed, Prof Dr Moniruzzaman Miah, Prof Dr SMA Faiz and Prof Dr Anwar Ullah Chowdhury, former adviser to the caretaker government Prof Dr MA Majed, former chief election commissioner Justice Abdur Rouf, political scientist Prof Dr Talukder Moniruzzaman, former secretary Asafuddoulah, noted journalist Sadek Khan, Amar Desh acting editor Mahmudur Rahman, Press Club president Kamal Uddin Sabuj, former vice chancellor of Jahangirnagar University Dr Khandaker Mustahidur Rahman, DU professors Prof Dr AFM Yusuf Haider, Dr Mahbub Ullah, Dr Sadrul Amin and Dr Tajmeri SA Islam, journalists Amanullah Kabir, Alamgir Mahiuddin, Riaz Uddin Ahmed, Shaukat Mahmud and Dr Rezwan Siddiqui, economist Prof Abu Ahmed, president of Supreme Court Bar Association Advocate Joynal Abedin and its former president Advocate Khandker Mahbub Hossain.
