Workshop for women empowerment in Nilphamari

A workshop entitled ' Voice of grass root women: barriers and possible intervention' was held at Sadar upazila auditorium on Sunday . Arranged by NGO 'Unnayan Sahojogi Team' (UST), the workshop was attended by Mostaim Billah, UNO of sador upazila as chief guest. Keynote paper of the programme was read out by Tojammel Haque, technical advisor of UST while Shah Anwar Kamal, executive director (ED) of the organization presided over it. The speakers in the workshop said that Bangladesh is committed to realize millennium development goal by empowering women. They also emphasized that for achieving sustainable development and good governance, it is important to empower the women by including required principles in national development policies. The workshop arranged under project 'Promote Gender Equality and Political Participation in Bangladesh' is financed by 'Spainish Agency for International Development and Co-operation' (AECID) and supported by another organization Peace and Development (PD). UST as local NGO is implementing programmes of the project.
Huge stolen goods seized in Bogra

A huge amount of stolen and stripped goods were recovered by Bogra law enforces agencies among last 5 months. The goods were displayed to the local newsmen at the police office on September 16. Police source said that the 40 unregistered and illegal motorbikes, 11 trucks, two Micro buses, two private cars, one pickup van, one jeep, three 3 wheelers, one losimon seized in the last 5 months form 1st may to 15th September 2012. Bogra police also seized 21 unregistered and illegal motorbikes, one private car, five tracks and one locimon seized in January to April in this year. On the other hand five foreign pistols, three revolvers, one shutter gun, five magazines, 32 rounds ammunitions, 10 Samurai, four big knives, three chapatti, three bermis knives, two swords, one hasua (local made sharp weapon) also seized from different places in the district and 24 people arrested involving in this connection on April 27 to September 11 this year. Police also arrested more than 13 thousand miscreants involving of different kind of allegations in the last five months.
Truck-tanker strike in Barisal called off

Indefinite strike of Barisal's divisional unit of Truck Malik-Sramik Oikya Parishad (truck owners and laborers alliance) started from Saturday morning have been called off from Sunday night after a meeting with administration. Polash Kanti Bala, acting deputy commissioner of Barisal said that he called leaders of the striking groups in his office and held meeting over their demands at Sunday afternoon. At one stage BCC Mayor also talked with them over mobile phone and requesting to call off the strike assured them to consider their legitimate demands, the ADC Barisal said. Then the transport leaders agreed to call off strike and resume transportation from Sunday night, said Unit's Senior Vice President Mohammad Nasir Uddin Khan.
Female outlaw held, arms recovered

Police arrested a female outlaw and recovered three arms and seven bombs from an out law's house at Mandartala village under Harinakundo upazila of Jhenidah district on Friday noon. The arrestee is Farida Begum wife of Billal Hossain alias Beltu of Mandartala village of the district. Beltu is also involved in outlaw party. He is also an infamous terrorist. Officer in charge (OC) Abul Khayer of Harinakundo police station said, on Friday noon, on secret information they came to learn that some terrorists are staying at the house of Beltu at Mandartala village of the upazila. They launched a drive at the village. On sensing the presence of police Beltu and other left the house crossing the water body. At the time police recovered one rifle, two shutter guns, three chapati and seven bombs from the house and arrested female outlaw Farida. Farida confessed that the arms belong to her husband. Beltu is an accused of arms and explosive cases of Harinakundo police station, the OC added.
