Exhibition of digital life ends


Nasir Muzahid The five-day 'ended at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city on Sunday with huge response from all ages of people, though it could not draw expected number of visitors due to the ICC Cricket World Cup. The organizers, however, though managed to display the world cup matches with large screen in the exposition premises, many ICT fans, who did not want to miss valuable moments of the World Cup, didn't visit the expo during its first two days. The exhibition finally drew huge crowds on the concluding day and its previous day. President of Bangladesh Computer Samity (BCS) Mostafa Jabbar said visitors in the exposition were fewer than usual. This might be for the ongoing World Cup Cricket, he said. He however expressed his satisfaction on the overall progress of the fair and said our main motive of organizing such a fair was not to sale the products but to show the latest ICT products to the countrymen, especially to the young generation. We wanted to give a festive look here and in this sense, it was successful, he added. Selling of laptop computer was very good as most of the visitors shown their interest for buying it. On the concluding day of the expo, sale of laptops went high as there was huge discount on every model of laptops. New models of laptop were the key attractions for the young generation and technology fans at the fair, sellers said. Rohijur Rahman, Sales Executive of Ryans computers, said several models of laptops of different companies were sold at a cheaper price at the exposition. "Waiver from Tk 1500 to Tk 2000 is being awarded on every model of laptops," he said. With the theme of `Digital Bangladesh for new generation' Bangladesh Computer Samity (BCS) with the support from the Ministry of Science and Information & Communication Technology and ICT Business Promotion Council under the Ministry of Commerce of the Government of Bangladesh organised the exclusive event at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city during March 09-13. Three private universities - North South University, Southeast niversity and daffodil University - took part in the expo under virtual project titled 'Finding ways for achieving digital Bangladesh'. Yasin Ibne Hasan, Sadia Afrin and Rifa Tasnin won first prize in three categories-'Ka' 'Kha' and 'Ga'. In this expo, there were 73 stalls and 29 pavilions where 66 ICT companies displayed most updated applications & services, techniques and technologies that change our every stair of life to a new dimension. At the same time, a lot of surprising programmes like audio-visual show, PowerPoint presentation, play, cultural programs were also arranged there to influence the people for using up-coming technologies. Several seminars on how to build Digital Bangladesh speedy were organised at the expo. The decision makers, industry stakeholders & academicians took part in those seminars. However, the visitors were provided free Wi-Fi internet facilities with free internet based game and videogame. Wi-Fi internet brand `Qubee' was the platinum sponsor of the expo while popular ICT brand ASUS, Bangladesh Digital Directories and Samsung sponsored the event as gold sponsor. IKARUS InfoTech Limited, KONICA MINOLTA and Microsoft were the silver sponsors of this ICT extravaganza.
