Sufia Kamal to be remembered
Five-day festival begins today

With a view to commemorating renowned poet Begum Sufia Kamal on the occasion of her centennial birth anniversary, a five-day festival titled ‘T (n) aar Deergho Chhayay’ is going to be held at Bengal Shilpalaya from today. Bengal Foundation, in association with the family of late Sufia Kamal, is arranging the festival which will include musical soiree, art camp and exhibition of the poet’s photos, personal letters and her belongings. Former chief justice Muhammad Habibur Rahman will inaugurate the festival while Professor Emirates Dr Anisuzzaman will be present among others. This was disclosed at a press conference at the Bengal Shilpalaya in the city yesterday. Poet’s daughter Sultana Kamal, her son Sajed Kamal, Director General of Bengal Foundation Luva Nahid Chowdhury addressed the conference among others. Earlier on 19 and 20 June, a two-day long art camp was arranged at the poet’s Dhanmondi residence where a total of 15 top artists of the country took part. The creations of that art camp will put on display at the Bengal gallery on the occasion of the five-day festival. The artworks based on the life, achievements and portraits of late Sufia Kamal will be put on display at the proposed museum to be set up at the poet's residence soon.
